Our
Story

A Little Bit About Us

Maryse has lived in Crouch End for over 20 years and worked with clay for almost as long, so it made complete sense for her to set up a pottery school on the doorstep of the community she loves.

With a teaching background in Montessori schools here and in the US, she has always loved sharing her knowledge and watching her students get excited about progressing with their craft (as she did all those years ago) which is still a big thrill for her.

What We Do

_______________

We offer classes of 5, 8 or 12 weeks taught by our experienced, talented and (let’s face it) gorgeous teachers who come from all kinds of clay backgrounds, united at the Clayhouse by their love of what they do.

Mugs and Bowls
  • How old do I have to be to come to the studio?
18+ but if you are accompanied by an adult, you can join us at 16.
  • What do I bring?
Just yourself! We provide tools, aprons, clay, towels, tea, coffee, soft drinks and if you’re lucky, a bit of cake!
  • How much clay can I use/how much can I make?
We are not a production pottery as space is limited, so we ask our students to only keep the things they love and discard the things they don’t. Remember, practising the skills you learn is equally, if not more important than producing large quantities of pots that can’t be used. We can recommend other studios in the area, that will work better for your needs if you would like to make on mass or bigger.
  • Can I book private/121/221 sessions?
Yes you can! The session will be 2 or 3 hours long and will be given by one of our teachers. The cost is £30 per hour. You may also like to attend one of the drop in sessions which will be overseen by one of our wonderful mentors.
  • Can I bring my own glazes?
You are welcome to bring brush on glazes and oxides but they must be cleared by a member of staff before using.
  • Can I take photos or video demonstrations?
I’m afraid we don’t allow any filming or photography in the studio. Whipping phones out in the middle of a demo or referring to social media, whilst in the class, is off-putting to the students and the teachers so please no photos or videos.
  • I have a disability. Can I come to the studio?
Absolutely! You are more than welcome to come to any of the courses, have a go, or drop in sessions. There is step free access ( with a 15cm ramp) and room to move around if you have a wheelchair. However, there is limited space in the WC. If you would like to come and have a look around, please contact us at info@clayhouselondon.com and we would be very happy to arrange a time for you to visit us.
  • Can I cancel a class if I’m unable to attend?
If you book a course or session, you are able to cancel 2 weeks before the start date. If you are unable to attend 1 or 2 classes of a course, please let your tutor know on the first class and we will try and accommodate you. If you can’t attend due to illness, please let us know as soon as you can and we will try and fit you into another class for that session. Please note that this is a courtesy and if we can’t fit you into another class, within the duration of your course, you will not be able to make up the time.
  • Is the studio dog or pet friendly?
Sorry no. We do not allow animals into the studio unless you have a working guide dog.
